Summary[]
Hari's family and the rest of Shinbi Apartment becomess hypnotized by staring into the mysterious black water.
Plot[]
The episode begins with Doori excited about new shoes while Ha-ri mocks him for their poverty. Their parents, Jimi and Rico, enter, with Jimi teasing Rico about buying slippers, which angers her. Doori and Ha-ri express love for Rico, suggesting she should stay home from work, further irritating Jimi. Jimi leaves to investigate a theft, while Rico offers to prepare a meal. Ha-ri and Doori, anticipating joining a football team, instead discover a "haunted house," leading to their encounter with Shinbi.
After taunting Shinbi, the scene shifts to the kitchen where Ha-ri starts her meal. Doori tries to wash his face but the faucet runs dry after an announcement reveals broken water pipes. A strange black substance emerges from the faucet. Ha-ri claims she heard nothing, but Doori argues the pipes shook while she jokes about his face. Ha-ri rinses him with a leftover bottle until another announcement states repairs will begin, reminding everyone to be mindful of water usage, which eases Ha-ri’s concerns about the situation.
The scene shows a water tank with pipes leading to a faucet filling a humidifier, which emits dark, smoky mist. When its abilities were paused, the water becomes clear, but resumes to an opaque black. This black smoke possesses Jimi while she's cooking, and later, it also possesses Rico as he prepares tea. As Ha-ri goes to bed, both Jimi and Rico become overtaken by the black smoke, their pupils darkening, indicating the malevolent influence of the tainted water.
At midnight, Ha-ri's sleep was disrupted by drops of black water flooding the room. She tried to wake Doori, but the apartment was partly submerged. Investigating the kitchen and wondering what is happening with the apartment itself, Ha-ri found the faucet was the source and swiftly turned it off. Doori, meanwhile, attempted to wake Jimi, but she fainted and was caught just in time. Jimi's possession was temporarily halted, and as she went to her room, Ha-ri and Doori checked the bathtub, now filled with black water.
By the time it reaches daytime, Doori wakes up to find both parents, Jimi and Rico, asleep. As he checks on them, the water possession overtakes both, but Doori ignores their plight. During his morning routine, he discovers the water has turned black and is unnaturally buoyant. While contemplating the strange water, Doori's mind becomes clouded by the water possession. Ha-ri's calls for him to leave the bathroom go unanswered. Suddenly, a black water ghost drags Doori down, but Ha-ri rescues him, subduing the water possession. However, chaos ensues as water sources react violently, which contributes to the possession of the victims. A possessed Rico appears, and Doori recalls that the corrupt water drives victims insane, revealing that he and Jimi are also affected as a huge black shadow was cast over the apartment itself.
Shinbi arrives at the apartment, forcibly knocking on the door, where he finds Ha-ri, now angry about a "ghost" in the water tank. She reveals that victims are under the ghost's control, chanting "to the top" as they head to the rooftop. Shinbi confirms the need to lift the curse just as black water approaches him. Doori, Jimi, and Rico, now possessed, try to capture Ha-ri, but she manages to shut the door, trapping them inside as Shinbi instructs Ha-ri to reach the rooftop. As the trio breaks free, he immediately faces the incident, launching his first attack, that being a shield.
As the time shifts to afternoon, Ha-ri approaches an elevator, only to find many affected victims inside, all of them chanting at the same time. Ha-ri then proceeds to take the stairs after this cause. Having learned Shinbi's lesson, Ha-ri finally reaches the rooftop where she sees everyone climbing into the water tank one by one and undoubtedly follows suit even when un-possessed. She then sacrifices her life as the black water ghost reveal itself to be two of them. Even when pulled by one of the victims, Ha-ri then receives a flashback to which the following events occur:
Two kids named Jong-soo and Jong-min playing soccer saw a family heading to the pool and wanted to swim too, but their parents were busy. As a "suitable" place for swimming, and unaware of the tank's dangers, they climb inside, mistaking it for a pool. They climbed to the roof, descended the water tank, and reached the water. Trying to return, the rope handle broke, causing them to fall back in, and they ultimately drowned with no escape, facing an unexpected and perilous situation.
Back to the current situation, Ha-ri doesn't stop holding on for longer until Shinbi takes hold of her and attempts to pull her back up. After Shinbi apologizes for using up his magic, he advises Ha-ri to locate the handle since it's the only way to lift the curse. After the advice was given, Ha-ri takes aim and locates it for real this time even when being pursued by the ghosts. She initially struggles but ultimately manages to do it successfully. As the ghosts were freed, so did the enveloped darkness itself and reverting all of the affected victims back to normal but a few of them fainted in the process. Shinbi then calls for Ha-ri, who appears to be unconscious, wakes up and is stated that the curse was finally broken.
Ha-ri apologizes to the same two ghosts, as both of them turn into spirits, enabling them to ascend to the heavens after a warm hug. They transform into the first Ghost Orb, named "Drowned Water Ghosts" or the Drowned Twins of the Water. Shinbi explains that Ghost Orbs are remnants of ghosts who leave their magical energy behind, which can be harnessed for battles. Ha-ri keeps the Ghost Orb and rushes to her friends Doori, Jimi, and Rico, who are unconscious and have lost their memories. Despite Ha-ri's concerns about their reactions upon awakening, she tries to wake them. When Rico awakens, Shinbi disappears, leaving Jimi questioning their long slumber.
Back in the ground floor apartment, water sources are normalized after repairs. Ha-ri and Doori's school starts next week, and Shinbi reveals his magical powers can be used outside once daily under certain conditions. Ha-ri owes Shinbi a favor for helping evade ghosts, and despite some irritation, Shinbi crafts Ghost Balls for them, showcasing their powers. These allow summoning Shinbi or other ghosts using collected Ghost Orbs for protection. However, summoning any ghost requires more energy than just a basic amount. Other ghosts can only be summoned once daily unless they are Shinbi, who can be called as needed in emergencies. Shinbi warns them to use caution with the Ghost Balls, emphasizing their importance and limitations, as the episode concludes with views of the Ghost Balls shown.
